fart
slang
1. verb To expel intestinal gas from the body through the anus. Someone obviously farted in the elevator. Ew, what's that smell? Did one of you fart? Yeah, I think farting loudly in the middle of class is among the most mortifying things I've ever done!
2. noun Intestinal gas expelled from the body through the anus. Yuck, who ripped that nasty fart? Someone open a window! A: "Ew, what's that smell?" B: "Definitely a fart. Gross." I swear, my brothers somehow have the smelliest farts on the planet. Ugh, it's so gross.
3. noun An expulsion of such gas; an instance of flatulence. I didn't want to let out a fart in front of my boyfriend's parents, so I just held it in throughout the whole dinner. A: "Ew, what's that smell?" B: "Somebody definitely let loose with a fart. Gross." In a house with four boys, there's always someone letting out a fart like it's the most hilarious thing in the world.
4. noun An irritating or repellent person. Often used in the combination "old fart." They put Todd in charge? Ugh, that useless fart couldn't manage a sock drawer! I've fully embraced that I'm going to be a stodgy old fart when I get older. Mr. Collins is a miserable old fart, so I'm not surprised he was yelling at kids for playing in his front yard.
