blockbuster

blockbuster

1. noun Something, typically a movie or book, that is very popular and makes a large profit. The movie looked so stupid in the previews, but it turned out to be a real blockbuster. Nothing compares to seeing an action blockbuster on the big screen. It's clear the actress's star is rising, as she is now confirmed for three more major blockbusters over the next few years.
2. adjective Describing something that experiences such popularity and financial success. Our studio stands to profit from the release of another blockbuster film this summer. I know it makes me a snob, but I just have zero interest in those blockbuster movies that are full of car chases and heists. Do you like blockbuster movies? Artsy indie films? What are you into?
