To not or no longer be in a place, condition, or situation that might result in one's harm or peril. Make sure those bystanders are out of harm's way before we try and put the fire out. You're so anxious for your children to be out of harm's way that you're going to end up denying them a lot of valuable life experiences. Thanks to the quick action of emergency responders, everyone was out of harm's way before the bomb exploded.
