be behind schedule

To not have made as much progress as had been planned in order to meet a particular deadline. I'm so far behind schedule that I'll never get this report done by Friday. Thanks to the flu, I'm now behind schedule in my party preparations. I know the bus was supposed to be here at 3:07, ma'am, but it's almost always behind schedule.
