get behind schedule

To not have made as much progress as had been planned in order to meet a particular deadline. I've gotten so far behind schedule that I'll never get this report done by Friday. I can't take a sick day or I'll get behind schedule on planning for our end-of-year fundraiser. We've already gotten way behind schedule, so this paint job better be good enough!
