mobilia sequuntur personam

mobilia sequuntur personam

From Latin, literally, "movable property follows the person," a legal doctrine which holds that a person's personal property is subject to the laws that govern the person, even if located in a different jurisdiction. The Italian government wanted to apply additional property taxes to the valuable heirlooms, but the fact that Mr. Sanders was legally domiciled in Bermuda meant that the mobilia sequuntur personam principle would apply.
