talk a good line

To speak convincingly or artfully, typically when one is being hypocritical, disingenuous, or unauthentic. The candidate talks a good line about creating local jobs, but her track record over the years paints a different picture. He talked a good line during his speech, but I haven't seen any evidence that he's doing anything proactive to resolve the issue.
