A man who puts himself out to be attractive to women and is very attentive to them. This term dates from the eighteenth century, and presumably contrasts such a person with the strong silent type known as a man’s man. William Cowper used the expression in
Tiroc (1784): “A slave at court, elsewhere a lady’s man.” See also
