Used to express dismay at, confusion about, or disdain for something that has just been said. Is it any wonder that their season went awry? The defense, if you could call it that, was provided by a rookie goalie and four defensemen who wouldn't have cracked a better team's lineup. A: "What is this sad thing?" B: "Ellie made me a cake, if you could call it that." A: "Oh dear, it's sunken in the middle." A: "I'm not a big fan of his acting." B: "Please, if you could call it acting! That guy's about as wooden as an old spoon."
