for (some) years running

For (some number of) consecutive years. After being in charge of the conference for three years running, I'm more than ready to turn it over to someone else. Once our kids started school, illness was a constant in our house for about three years running. I've been working on my thesis for two years running, and I still don't have my defense scheduled.
