fixate on (someone or something)

1. To focus one's gaze on someone or something. Is the dog still fixated on that squirrel statue in the back yard? Throughout the journey, I couldn't help but fixate on a young man sitting opposite me who wore what appeared to be a stuffed parrot on his shoulder. Callie is so beautiful that I just fixate on her any time she walks in the room.
2. To focus one's attention obsessively on someone or something. It's not healthy to fixate on someone like that. Let them know you're interested, and then carry on with your life! She continues to fixate on becoming the best archer in the world. A: "Mom thinks she forgot to lock the front door." B: "Oh boy, now she'll fixate on that and worry for the rest of the day."
