educate for (something)

To train and prepare oneself or someone for a particular job or task. A noun or pronoun can be used between "educate" and "for." I was educated for a career in law, but I decided to pursue art instead. Even though my daughters are still in school, I always try to educate them for success in the business world. I was educated for teaching, and I ended up training people in the corporate world.

educated guess

A thoughtful, well-reasoned guess; a guess with some basis in one's knowledge. Class, we've studied cells all semester. Take an educated guess as to what the answer might be. A: "How'd you know that was the answer?" B: "It was just an educated guess!" I mean, the clue mentioned a "Shakespeare tragedy" and "jealousy." Othello was a pretty educated guess.
