6. verb, slang To stop being upset, angry, stressed, etc. Often used as an imperative. Tom seriously needs to chill. He's way too high-strung. Chill, dude! You're getting upset over nothing! Would you chill? This is so not a big deal.
7. verb, dated slang To kill someone. We've got nothing to worry about now, boss. Ray chilled the informant. An attack that large could chill us all! A sniper positioned high above City Hall chilled the mayor and created a panic.
chilly climate
Used to describe an area in which women's involvement or progress is not encouraged. It is typically applied to fields like politics and academia. I'm the only woman in the sociology department right now, and boy, is it a chilly climate. I can see that I will have a hard time advancing here. No, I didn't end up taking that job because I got the strong impression that it would be a chilly climate for a woman to work in. Have you ever considered that maybe you guys are part of the problem? That no women want to work in your department because of the chilly climate?
