(let the) buyer beware

proverb It is the buyer's responsibility to be sure that they are not being cheated or overcharged. In no place is the adage "buyer beware" truer than when buying something off an online classifieds ad. It's no one's fault but your own if you paid good money for a dud of a car. Let the buyer beware. I can ask whatever price I want for this old camera. Let the buyer beware, am I right?

a buyer's market

An economic situation in which supply is greater than demand, thereby resulting in lower prices, more choices, and greater leverage for the buyer. The opposite is called a seller's market. The recent advances in solar-panel technology have made it a buyer's market for those looking to integrate solar energy into their homes or businesses. I'd keep renting for now—if the real estate bubble bursts again, it will become a buyer's market for houses. I wish I could take part in this wild buyer's market that's happening, but I still haven't saved enough for a down payment.

An acute sense of regret following a purchase, especially an expensive or extravagant one, due to conflicting feelings of guilt or uncertainty about the decision. I was so dazzled by the new car that I signed the contract right then and there, but I started having terrible buyer's regret the next day after I thought about how much money I'd spent and whether I could have gotten a much better deal for something more practical. She tried to convince herself that the new computer was as impressive as it looked in the store, but she couldn't shake that terrible feeling of buyer's regret. I always think shopping will make me feel better, but I usually end up with buyer's regret, wondering why I bought all this stuff I don't need.
