bringing in the bells

bringing in the bells

Acknowledging the start of a new year with the ringing of bells. Part of the Scottish New Year's celebration, Hogmanay. Primarily heard in Scotland. Bringing in the bells always got my whole family to gather around the TV when I was growing up. Like many families, it was our New Year's tradition. A: "You know what bringing in the bells is?" B: "Yes, thanks to a semester abroad in Scotland." How do you ring in the New Year? Bringing in the bells is the way it's done around here.
