1. Literally, to be moving. Now that my kid's a toddler and is constantly in motion, I long for the baby days! Please do not stand while the train is in motion. I hate traveling by boat—my stomach really does not enjoy being in motion 24 hours a day.
2. By extension, to be underway, unfolding, or progressing. A: "Jeff, what's the status of our new deployment strategy?" B: "Things are in motion, we're just waiting for some final tests from the development team." The legislation is now in motion, thanks to the senator from New Hampshire. The project isn't in motion yet because we're still waiting for our funding to be approved.
