To be cranky, unhappy, or surly. The boss is really in a bad mood today, so I'd steer clear of him if you don't want to get screamed at. A: "Betty is always so pleasant." B: "I know, it's like she's never in a bad mood." Good luck asking Mom for money when you already know she's in a bad mood.
