bargain for (someone or something) with (someone)

To attempt to obtain possession or custody of someone or something after negotiating or conferring with someone to reach an agreement. Do you think we can bargain for that used car with the owner? Or will he turn us away? I don't want to bargain for the kids with you. Let's just split custody evenly. We tried to bargain for the house with the seller directly, but he ultimately wanted to accept a higher offer.
