ear hustler

Someone who is apt to eavesdrop or gossip. Let's postpone this discussion until a later time—some people in the office are known ear hustlers. Janet's definitely an ear hustler—if you tell her you're pregnant, everyone will know by noon. I'm not an ear hustler! You guys just talk so loud that I can't help but overhear what you're saying!

1. Someone who deceives and swindles others. Rich is a known hustler—don't believe a word he says. Mom, don't be a fool and give this guy more money when he hasn't done a single part of this job right so far. He's a total hustler! That offer really was too good to be true—turns out, the guy was a hustler, and he conned us out of thousands.
2. A skilled player of a game who hides their abilities in order to beat opponents and win money from them. Most often refers to pool players. I've seen that guy play before, man—he's a real hustler. A: "This guy just challenged me to a game." B: "Well, I don't think he's a hustler, I think he's just a fool with money." Don't trust a beautiful woman who asks you to teach her to play pool—she's probably a hustler!
3. A prostitute. I bet you'll be able to find a hustler in a seedy part of town like this. I haven't seen him all night—I bet he hired a hustler and is having some fun with her. Was that politician really caught in the embrace of a hustler?
4. A man who is particularly skilled at becoming acquainted with women, with the aim of having sexual or romantic encounters with them. I'm no hustler, but at least I've successfully picked up a woman from a bar, unlike you losers. That guy's clearly a hustler, that's why I'm not interested. One of the other six girls he's talking to can go out with him! He's become quite the hustler, bringing home a different girl every night.
