To stay quiet despite wanting to say something. Just keep your peace if you don't have anything constructive to add. I knew that anything I said would just make her angry, so I decided to keep my peace.
keep (one's) place
To be aware of the limit of one's role in a particular place or situation. I keep my place and don't bother the CEO when I see him around the office. I'm just an intern, after all.
