#MeToo

A movement encouraging victims of sexual violence and harassment (typically women) to publicly share their experiences, with the intent of emphasizing how widespread such behavior is. The phrase was first used in this sense by activist Tarana Burke in 2006 and then went viral as a hashtag shortly after film producer Harvey Weinstein was publicly accused of sexual misconduct in October 2017. People keep asking whether #MeToo has gone too far, but every week we hear another story of abuse, so clearly it hasn't gone far enough. Dealing with sexual harassment in the workplace? Yep #MeToo.
