look at the big(ger) picture

To consider the general, overall, or long-term scope of something, as opposed to specific details or immediate preoccupations. I know I could stand to update my wardrobe, but I'm looking at the bigger picture. If I save my money now, I'll be able to afford my own house in a few years. As a manager, you need to be able to look at the bigger picture of the company instead of getting bogged down in the day-to-day operations.
