the bigger picture
The general, overall, or long-term scope of something, as opposed to the specific details or present preoccupations. I know that one parking ticket isn't important in the bigger picture of life, but I'm really annoyed about it right now. As a manager, you need to be able to look at the bigger picture of the company instead of getting bogged down in the day-to-day operations.
