hoo boy

An interjection usually used to express a negative emotion, such as dismay or displeasure. Hoo boy, I've got 24 pages of legal jargon to get through—lucky me. Aunt Louise is here? Hoo boy, we'll never be able to get out now—that woman could talk the leg off a chair. You're the one who messed up that account? Hoo boy, you better steer clear of the boss then!

hoo-ah

An affirmative exclamation commonly used by members of the US military. The soldiers all shouted "Hoo-ah!" before dispersing. A: "What was that?" B: "'Hoo-ah,' I think—not surprising coming from a military base." After getting their instructions, the soldiers all yelled, "Hoo-ah!"

hoo-ha

slang
1. A fuss or commotion. It's three in the morning! What's all this hoo-ha about? The argument escalated into a full-blown hoo-ha among the politicians. I'm going to call the police if this hoo-ha between the neighbors goes on much longer!
2. Nonsense. His explanation is just hoo-ha—it doesn't answer the question at all. Don't give me that excuse, I know it's nothing but hoo-ha! Please, that's hoo-ha! There's no reason they shouldn't be paying us overtime for workdays longer than 8 hours.
