have a bite to eat

To eat some food, especially a snack or a small meal that can be consumed quickly. Let's have a bite to eat before we get on the road. I just stopped at a café to have a bite to eat, but I'll be home soon, I promise. A: "Do you want me to save you some dinner?" B: "No, I had a bite to eat in town earlier, so I'm fine."
