have (some/a few) loose ends

To have several aspects or elements that remain unresolved or unfinished. The characters were compelling and the plot was interesting, but the film had a few loose ends that just never went anywhere. It sounds like the legal team still has some loose ends to tie up before we're ready to sign the contract. You know you have loose ends when the audience has that many questions at the end of a screening.
