informal Primarily heard in UK.
1. Some tool, gadget, or other such implement the proper name for which is unknown or unremembered. See, you just attach this handy little gubbins to your keys, and now you'll be able to locate them on your mobile! It looks like the signal is controlled by this joystick-looking gubbins. A: "What's that gubbins over there do?" B: "That's a power coupler. Don't touch it."
2. Miscellaneous objects or paraphernalia, especially those that are not especially important or valuable; odds and ends. I can never find what I need amongst all the gubbins in this drawer! I wish the house weren't so cluttered up with gubbins. Good luck finding that file in Ed's office—it's practically overflowing with all manner of bizarre gubbins.
