Of an audio recording, to sell enough copies to achieve "gold" status. (The necessary total varies from country to country.) Our band had much more clout with the record label once our album went gold. That song must have gone gold because it was everywhere when I was a kid. I started to weep with joy when I heard that the song I'd written had gone gold.
