archaic To give a rejection, refusal, or cold reception. Primarily heard in UK. Milton set to drinking in the town's tavern after his wealthy distant relations gave a sneck posset. A: "Why would their entire family give a sneck posset?" B: "Because I was supposed to marry their youngest daughter, and, obviously, I did not." Yes, I did give a sneck posset. I want nothing to do with that lout now or in the future!
