To intentionally mar the appearance of something by a particular means. I can't believe that someone defaced our beautiful storefront with graffiti! Don't mind the scribbles—my daughter loves to deface every book in the house with her crayons these days. Dude, if you defaced city property with spray paint, the police will find you—there are security cameras all over the place!

to mutilate or spoil the appearance of something with something. Someone defaced the wall with spray paint. Please don't deface the facilities.
