To plot or conspire about something. What are you kids whispering about back there? You better not be conniving at something! My siblings and I are conniving at a big surprise for our parents' anniversary. The president of the company brewed a plot with his assistant to conceal all evidence of his crime.

To plot or conspire with one about something. What are you kids whispering about back there? You better not be conniving at something with each other! It turns out the company had connived at a major tax-evasion plan with other corporations from around the world. It's a big anniversary for our parents this year, so I'm conniving at a surprise for them with my siblings.

to scheme at something (with someone); to plot something (with someone). Are you conniving at something with Ronald? Are you and Ronald conniving with Tom at something I should know about? Stop conniving with people!
