check (one's) six
To look behind oneself, typically by looking over one's shoulder. "Six o'clock" is a military term referring to the area behind oneself. Make sure to check your six, in case someone tries to follow you. There's a lot of dark corners in this place, so you'd be wise to check your six once we get in there. Because I checked my six in time, I was able to surprise my would-be attacker with an elbow to the nose.
