2. Of a person, to be drunk. Do you remember last night at the bar at all? You were really on the blink! Well, I must have been on the blink if I got up and did karaoke at the bar! Help him get home, will ya? He started drinking whiskey, and now he's on the blink.
before (one) can blink
Very quickly or suddenly. I'm not far from your house, so I'll be there before you can blink. Before I could blink, a deer darted out in front of my car, and I had to slam on my brakes. A: "And then, before you could blink, Tom had leapt to his feet and rushed out of the room." B: "I know, what was that all about?"
blink at (something)
1. Literally, to quickly open and close one's eyes, perhaps several times in succession. I had to blink at the bright sunlight that blinded me when I stepped out of the house. After blinking at the frigid wind for long enough, my eyes started tearing. Hey, does your little girl have sunglasses? She's squinting and blinking at the sun.
2. To ignore something, often because it is unpleasant. I've been blinking at the strange issue with my car because I don't have the money to get it repaired right now. You can't just blink at your nonexistent savings account and hope for the best! Yeah, I'm blinking at the leaky sink because I don't trust anyone to fix it!
