That which is especially painful, challenging, or unpleasant. This project has turned into such a bed of thorns. The bigger it gets, the more complicated it becomes. My family members are constantly arguing, so spending time with them can be a bed of thorns. Running outside in this bitter cold is a real bed of thorns—honestly, I don't know how you do it.
