To be painful, challenging, or unpleasant. This project is a bed of thorns now. It's just so tedious and complicated. My family members are constantly arguing, so spending time with them can be a bed of thorns. Running outside in this bitter cold is a real bed of thorns—honestly, I don't know how you do it.
