To become especially difficult to manage over time. Joan's daughter was very polite and well behaved when she was younger, but she has become a real handful as a teenager, always sneaking out and getting into trouble. This project seemed easy at first, but it's starting to become a real handful. I'm not sure I'll finish by the deadline. My sweet little daughter has become a handful now that she's walking. Thank goodness for baby gates!
