mamma mia

cliché An interjection denoting shock, distress, or surprise. From Italian, literally "my mother." Mamma mia, you look like something the cat dragged in! They're going to be here in 20 minutes? Mamma mia—dinner isn't even halfway cooked yet!

MIA

An initialism for "missing in action."
1. military Unable to be located and therefore unable to be confirmed as alive or dead. The platoon got hit hard, man. Most of the soldiers are MIA now.
2. Not present or involved in something. The chairman of the board promised to support our efforts, but he's been MIA thus far, and no one else is taking our work seriously.
