wreathe (someone or something) in (something)

To enclose, encircle, or surround someone or something with some substance. Often used in passive constructions. The hotel wreathed the guests in laurels when they arrived. The building was wreathed in flames by the time the firefighters arrived. The mystic burned incense and used it to wreathe the shrine in smoke.

to enclose someone or something in a wreath or a wreath-shaped area. The trees wreathed them in a lovely frame. It made a beautiful photograph. The vines wreathed the campers in a gentle bower.
