In utter shock or great surprise, especially upon learning unexpected news. We sat with our jaws in our laps after we heard how much they were paying in rent. A: "I don't know about you, but hearing that they're having a baby left me with my jaw in my lap." B: "Same here. They've only been dating for about five minutes!"
