wish (someone or something) off on (someone or something else)(redirected from wish someone off on)
wish (someone or something) off on (someone or something else)
1. To pass some undesirable person or thing to a different person, group, organization, etc. Because I'm the new person in the office, everyone wishes their most tedious work off on me. The woman tried to get an answer from the company, but they kept wishing her off on different departments until she finally got fed up and left.
2. To desire that some unpleasant or undesirable person, situation, or circumstance, be imposed on someone else. Typically used in negative constructions. I wouldn't wish the death of a child off on my worst enemy. I just don't see the point in wishing bad things off on other people.
