1. To force, extract, or pry someone or something from a particular place or position. Primarily heard in UK. 2. By extension, to obtain or acquire some information from someone through coercion, scrutiny, or interrogation. Primarily heard in UK. Delilah's incredibly sharp and persistent. If anyone can winkle out the truth about this whole thing, it will be her. The police have acknowledged that they used inappropriate means to winkle a confession out of the suspect.
