waft off

1. To rise or emanate from someone or something. The stench of stale sweat wafted off him as he walked past. An unbearable smugness has been wafting off her ever since her book became a national bestseller.
2. To send someone to an unconscious state. In this usage, a noun or pronoun is used between "waft" and "off." The doctor administered the general anesthetic, wafting the patient off to the dreamless void of unconsciousness. I lay my head wearily on the pillow and let the arms of sleep waft me off to dreamland.
3. To convey someone, physically or figuratively, to some other place or state, especially in a dreamlike or spellbound manner. In this usage, a noun or pronoun is used between "waft" and "off." The opera manages to waft you off to an enchanted and magical realm of the imagination. Our generous hosts brought us aboard their private jet and wafted us off to one exotic location after another.
