1. Controlled by magic or enchantment. The evil witch put the princess under a spell that would keep her asleep for 1,000 years.
2. By extension, enthralled, captivated, or fascinated (by someone or something). He acts as if he's under a spell whenever he's around her. The entire audience was under a spell as they watched the performance.
