INFORMALCOMMON If you turn your nose up at something or turn up your nose at it, you reject it because you think that it is not good enough for you. Hettie will turn her nose up at my cheap and cheerful high-street clothes. University graduates were turning up their noses at business jobs and trying instead to get into university teaching. Note: You often use this expression to show that you disapprove of the person's behaviour because they are being too proud.
