thrust back

1. To lunge, leap, or rush backward. I showed him the wound on my arm, and he thrust back in disgust. I leaned in to kiss her, then thought better of it and thrust back.
2. To push, shove, or drive someone or something back and away (from someone or something). In this usage, a noun or pronoun can be used between "thrust" and "away." The reporter tried to approach the president to ask a question, but the Secret Service member thrust him back. The toddler thrust back the plate, refusing to even look at the food on it.
