(someone or something) rules

1. Used to express that someone or something is really excellent. No way, Star Wars rules! Star Trek is just silly by comparison. I think Jerry Seinfeld rules—his stand-up comedy is hilarious! Aw man, Mr. O'Connell rules—I'm so jealous you got him for Algebra this year.
2. Used to express that someone or something is particularly dominant, especially in a certain area. I'm used to crispier, flatter pizza, but in this city, deep-dish pizza rules. Good luck being a Mets fan in LA, the land where the Dodgers rule. I've just never been big on cheesesteaks—and I'm from Philly, where cheesesteaks rule.
