there's one born every minute

A phrase used to express the opinion that the person or people being discussed are stupid and/or easily swindled or deceived. A variation of the expression, "There's a sucker born every minute," which is usually attributed to American showman P.T. Barnum. A: "Did those people seriously think he was going to race an actual shark?" B: "There's one born every minute."

People say there's one born every minute to mean that someone has just done something stupid, especially that they have been tricked. I have often seen these salesmen surrounded by crowds ready to buy. There's one born every minute!
