hard charger

1. Someone who tends to be very forceful and aggressive. This guy's a real hard charger—that's how he became vice-president of the company at such a young age.
2. In auto racing, someone who is able to drastically improve their position during a race. Don't be fooled by Tom's slow start—he's a hard charger and will probably end up leading the pack.
