a footnote in history

a footnote in history

Someone or something whose past achievements or contributions are now largely forgotten or seen as insignificant. These days, the Quebec Nordiques are a footnote in hockey history, even though the organization went on to win multiple Stanley Cups as the Colorado Avalanche. Many failed presidential candidates end up just being footnotes in history.
