To say something to someone in a blunt and direct manner. For all his faults, at least John will tell you point-blank when he needs something, rather than dancing around the issue like most people.
ask, tell, etc. somebody point ˈblank ask, tell, etc. somebody very directly, and perhaps rudely: I told him point blank that we no longer wanted him to work for us. ♢ She asked me point blank why I didn’t like her. Point blank originally referred to firing a gun or shooting an arrow directly at the centre of a target from very close to it.
